Two new species ofZyzzogetonBreddin and the female ofZ. haenschiBreddin (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Cicadellinae: Proconiini)

Abstract: Two new species of the leafhopper genus Zyzzogeton Breddin are described and illustrated: Z. emmrichi sp. nov. from Colombia and Z. guatemalensis sp. nov. from Guatemala. The two new taxa can be distinguished from the three other known species of the genus by their colour patterns and by the form of the apical processes of the aedeagus. A key to the species of Zyzzogeton is provided. The genus is newly recorded from Guatemala, which is its northernmost known record. Taxonomic and morphological data on Zyzzoget… Show more

“…It comprises two tribes, a cosmopolitan Cicadellini and a New World Proconiini (Young 1968) although phylogenetic studies (Takiya 2007) suggest at least three tribes. The tribe Proconiini sensu Young (1968) includes 60 genera and 433 species (Carvalho et al 2011;Mejdalani et al 2008Mejdalani et al , 2012Mejdalani & Garcia 2011;Takiya & Dmitriev 2015), of which 18 genera and 44 species are known from Argentina (Dellapé & Paradell 2013). The taxonomy of the tribe is based mainly on characters of male genitalia and the keys to identify most genera and species are restricted to males (Dietrich & Pooley 1994;Mejdalani 1995).…”

“…Previous papers of the series included descriptions of four new species and notes on other species in the tribe (MEJDALANI & EMMRICH 1998, CEOTTO et al 2000, MEJDALANI 2006, 2008. One of the goals of this series is to improve our taxonomical knowledge of species that are poorly described and, thus, are of difficult identification.…”
