Two New Iridoid Glucosides from the Whole Plant of Patrinia scabiosifolia Link

Abstract: As a traditional Chinese medicine, Patrinia scabiosifolia Link has been used to treat various inflammatory-related diseases, and recent studies have shown that it possesses potent anti-inflammatory activity. Therefore, phytochemical investigation on whole plants of P. scabiosifolia were carried out, which led to the isolation of two new iridoid glucosides, patriniscabiosides A (1) and B (2), together with six known compounds (3–8). The structural elucidation of all compounds was performed by HRESIMS and extens… Show more

“…66 Whereas, LPS induced the generation of ROS 67 and can cause a significant increase in lung enzymes and lipid peroxidation, and a significant increase in MDA and a drop-in antioxidant enzyme activity in lungs. 68 In the present study, GANEs and dexamethasone induced transcription of IL-4, and suppresses TNF-α and IL-6 led to reduce ROS production and attenuate inflammation in vivo. For example, suppression of TGF-β led to inhibit the expression of p38MAPK and TGF-β gene expression.…”

“…GANEs remove ROS at the first level through direct scavenging or modulation of antioxidant enzyme activity; while at the second level, they prevent ROS formation and inhibition of ROS producing enzymes . Whereas, LPS induced the generation of ROS and can cause a significant increase in lung enzymes and lipid peroxidation, and a significant increase in MDA and a drop-in antioxidant enzyme activity in lungs …”

“…ex Jacq (Plantaginaceae) (6) [54], and Valeriana jatamansi Jones (7) (Caprifoliaceae) [55], as well as secoiridoids (8-10) [50,52,56]. Iridoids are undoubtedly the class of monoterpenes with the greatest potential for providing new structures [49][50][51][52]. Cornusdiridoids (4-5) (Figure 4) with unusual cornuside-morroniside secoiridoid dimers and small stereochemical variations were obtained from the fruits of Cornus officinalis.…”

“…Fourteen iridoids 16 , 28 , 31 , 35 , 51 , 70 , 71 , 77 , 78 , 81 , 85 , 92 , 94 and 105 with anti-inflammatory activity have been isolated from the Patrinia genus. The anti-inflammatory activity was mainly screened by cell models [ [16] , [17] , [18] , [19] , [21] , [22] , [28] , [29] , [30] , [53] , [54] , [55] , [58] , [72] , [78] ] and animal models [ [31] , [32] , [33] , [34] , [35] , [36] , [37] , [59] , [60] , [61] , [73] ]. The cell models were RAW264.7 cell and chondrocyte induced by LPS, and the animal models were colitis mice induced by AKI, UC and DSS ( Table 2 ).…”
