“…Species of Caenis with apically pointed forceps can be found throughout the Holarctic and Neotropical Regions, and in South America, seven species present this character state (Domínguez et al 2006). Brasilocaenis Puthz (1975), a genus endemic to South America and currently represented by six species, also shows this type of forceps (Malzacher 1986(Malzacher , 1990(Malzacher , 1998. Given the similarity and possible relationship between Brasilocaenis and the species of Caenis from South America with apically pointed forceps, a phylogenetic revision of Neotropical Caeninae is urgently needed.…”
