Two New Dioxopiperazine Derivatives, Arestrictins A and B, Isolated from Aspergillus restrictus and Aspergillus penicilloides.

Abstract: Two New Dioxopiperazine Derivatives, Arestrictins A and B, Isolated from Aspergillus restrictus and Aspergillus penicilloides. -In order to find novel bioactive compounds, the extract of the title fungi is investigated. The absolute configuration of the alcohol functionality in (Ia) is still unknown. -(ITABASHI, T.; MATSUISHI, N.; HOSOE, T.; TOYAZAKI, N.; UDAGAWA, S.-I.; IMAI, T.; ADACHI, M.; KAWAI*, K.-I.; Chem.

“…A Japanese study has isolated asperglaucide, one of the most prevalent metabolites in our study, from the organic extract of the xerophilic fungi Aspergillus restrictus and Aspergillus penicillioides. 38 However, we only detected A. penicillioides from one sample with culturing and 13.6% of samples with DNA sequencing. Integracin B was more prevalent than A (93% vs 71%), and they are produced by the endophyte, Cytonaema species 39 and Cytospora species 40 which were not identified in our samples.…”

“…Such changes in secondary metabolite clusters may have a specific ecological significance among xerophilic fungi, as these are in general quite poor producers of secondary metabolites. For example, members of Aspergillus section Restricti have only been reported to produce asperglaucide and arestrictin A and B and cristatin A (Itabashi et al, 2006). Other closely related xerophilic species, such as Aspergillus section Aspergillus, formerly called Eurotium, produce ascomata (sexual structures) with many more secondary metabolites (Slack et al, 2009), whereas strains with only an Aspergillus state (i.e.…”

“…22) bearing a prenylated and reverse prenylated Z-DTrp residue was isolated from the Indian herb Lepidagathis cristata by Venkateswarlu and co-workers. 66 Its small optical rotation ([a] D þ1.2, CHCl 3 ), combined with the fact that S-30 subsequently isolated by Kawai and co-workers from the fungus Aspergillus restrictus has a large optical rotation ([a] D À26.3, CHCl 3 ), 67 has led to speculation that the original material was obtained as essentially a racemic mixture. Essentially racemic 30 was also found in the leaves of Acacia auriculiformis in 2012 by Hasan, Thurston, and co-workers.…”
