Although collaboration is considered a key 21st-century skill, oftentimes it is only assessed through the outcome measures of individual learners. In this paper, we draw upon collaborative cognitive load theory (CCLT) to explain the process of collaboration in learning from the point of view of the collective, rather than an individual learner. Using CCLT we suggest a new method of measuring the process of collaboration regardless of its outcome measures. Our approach — Collaborative Learning as a Process (CLaP) — uses social network analysis to evaluate the balance between interactivity gains and coordination costs of learner communities. Here, we demonstrate the approach using real-world data derived from the digital tracks of two online discussion communities. We argue that our conceptual approach can enable instructors and learners to unlock the black box of collaboration in learning. It has the potential to support the development of learner skills that go beyond cognition. We conclude the paper with the results of our investigation of the value of the approach to the online module instructor.

The Agri-food Supply Chains (AFSC) dealing with perishable items have suffered a lot due to the COVID 19 pandemic. During this uncertain time, developing resiliency has become a priority for management. Therefore, the main purpose of the study is to explore the impact of COVID-19 on AFSC and the possible strategies for improving the resilience of the AFSC. Impacts on AFSC and possible strategies are explored through the literature review and experts' opinions. The importance rating of impacts of COVID-19 on AFSC is determined using the Best-Worst Method (BWM). These impacts are further correlated with the strategies for improving the resilience of AFSC using Quality Function Deployment (QFD). The findings of the study will help farmers, food processors, distributors, and retailers to maintain the uninterrupted flow of food items from farmers to end-users during the uncertain business environment. It will also contribute to formulating effective policies by the government and other stakeholders for improving the resilience of AFSCs.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to propose an instrument to evaluate the collaboration quality of sustainable supply chains by considering collaboration behaviour and sustainability factors. Design/methodology/approach The proposed model integrates Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Fuzzy Analytical Network Process (FANP) and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to assess the efficiency score of each stakeholder involved. A case of a sugar company in Indonesia was analysed as the illustration of the application of the model. Findings The integrated QFD-FANP-DEA method enables to incorporate collaboration behaviour and sustainability factors in a single assessment model. The results of the case study showed the benchmarking results associated with the performance variance of stakeholders and the number of samples. Research limitations/implications Future research could consider other DEA approaches, extend the research by simulating a different number of scenarios and evaluating the improvement/deterioration, and expand the scope of collaboration. Practical implications Each stakeholder will be able to obtain the collaboration assessment results, and the improvements suggested by the model. Social implications Smallholders and farmers will be able to increase their benefits by using the existing resources. Originality/value This paper provides a methodological contribution by introducing new collaboration quality assessment methods that can accommodate any variance in multi-stakeholders, involve qualitative and quantitative measurements, and benefit all stakeholders.
