Two dodecanuclear heterometallic [Zn6Ln6] clusters constructed by a multidentate salicylamide salen-like ligand: synthesis, structure, luminescence and magnetic properties

Abstract: The employment of a multidentate salicylamide salen-like ligand, 2-hydroxy-N-(2-(2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino)ethyl)benzamide (H3L), in aid of NO3(-) anions under weak basic conditions in Zn(II)-Ln(III) chemistry (Ln = Eu, and Dy, ) led to the isolation of two novel butterfly heterometallic dodecanuclear clusters with six Ln(III) ions occupying the body position and six Zn(II) ions the outer wing-tip sites. All of them are fully characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR spectroscopy, TG analysis, single-crystal… Show more

“…And they can form all kinds of stable metal complexes [8,9], which have interesting structures and wide use in biochemistry [10,11]. Furthermore, they may have magnetic properties [12,13], photophysical properties [14,15], and used in the fields of molecular recognition [16,17], and supramolecular architectures [18]. The X-ray structural study reveals that the title complex is dinuclear (cf.…”

“…When the added amount of Zn 2+ reached 1.0 equiv., the fluorescence emission intensity became stable, which indicates a 1:1 stoichiometry between Zn 2+ and H2L 1 . The enhancement of fluorescence is due to the coordination of metal ions with ligands [67]. Likewise, Complex 2 displays enhanced emission intensities compared to the corresponding ligand (HL 2 ) when excited at 380 nm.…”

“…These Schiff base ligands and their metal complexes could be utilized in obtaining luminescence materials [8][9][10][11], biological systems [12], magnetic materials [13][14][15], and supramolecular constructing [16,17]. The binuclear Zn(II) complex of the title structure consists of two Zn(II) atoms, two tridentate ligand units L 2− , two coordinated methanol molecules.…”
