Two-Dimensional Simulation of the Navier-Stokes Equations for Laminar and Turbulent Flow around a Heated Square Cylinder with Forced Convection

Abstract: Few studies jointly investigate thermal and turbulent effects. In general, these subjects are treated separately. The purpose of this paper is to use the Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) coupled with the Virtual Physical Model (VPM) to investigate incompressible two-dimensional Newtonian flow around a heated square cylinder at constant temperature on its surface with forced convection and turbulence. The VPM model dynamically evaluates the force that the fluid exerts on the immersed surface and the thermal excha… Show more

“…Moreover, these choices are also consistent with existing works available in the literature, e.g. Santos [8], Santos et al [12], Mahir and Altaç [32], Sohankar and Etminan [33], Laidoudi and Bouzit [34]. The drag ( d C ) and lift ( l C ) coefficients, for the calculation of each cylinder, are evaluated by:…”

“…Ashrafizadeh and Hosseinjani [11] present an extension of the immersed boundary method for the analysis of the natural and mixed convection process, for the case of two cylinders side by side with rotation velocity alternated with heating, both in a cold and square cavity containing air, with Prandtl number square cylinder, the work developed by Santos et al [12] presents more details.…”

“…The eigenvalue problem is solved numerically using the Galerkin type of weighted residual technique by considering either the Rayleigh number or the Marangoni number as the eigenvalue. Rômulo et al [21] investigated the effects of thermal and turbulent on forced convection in a heated square cylinder for Two-Dimensional Simulation of the Navier-Stokes Equations. The purpose of this work is to use the Immersed Boundary Method (IBM) coupled with the Virtual Physical Model (VPM) to investigate incompressible two-dimensional Newtonian flow around a heated square cylinder at constant temperature on its surface with forced convection and turbulence.…”
