“…Among these studies, 7-day PPI plus standard bismuth triple therapy, which is now termed quadruple therapy , provides a consistently high eradication rate (approximately 96%) [10,16]. Several short-duration regimens for cure of H. pylori infection have been reported [2,3,[18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. Furthermore, this therapy has fewer adverse effects than commonly observed with 14-day bismuth triple therapy [17].…”

“…Generally, a simple regimen of short duration is convenient and preferable for patients and results in improved compliance. Several short-duration regimens for cure of H. pylori infection have been reported [2,3,[18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. With 4-day quadruple regimens consisting of PPI, bismuth, tetracycline, and metronidazole administered after 3 days of PPI pretreatment, cure rates were 86% to 94% [18][19][20].…”

“…The eradication rate was similar if the same treatment was given for 4 days, but poor if the duration was further reduced to 2 days 14 , . 19 –23 We therefore designed a 3‐day quadruple therapy substituting tetracycline with clarithromycin, with no pre‐ or post‐treatment acid suppression. The short regimen was still able to achieve a high per protocol eradication rate of 94.3%.…”

“…In total, 11 study arms involving 602 Dutch patients have been published on quadruple therapy (Table II). In three study arms quadruple therapy was given for 1 or 2 days only (LBTM0) (20)(21)(22), all with eradication rates`60%. In four studies (3 LBTM1 (3, 23, 24) and 1 OBTM1 (8)), quadruple therapy was given for 4 days with mean ITT and PP eradication rates of 89% and 91%, respectively.…”
