Paul Dirac Resumo Neste trabalho é explorada uma expansão de sistemas de comunicação Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing -Múltiplas-Entradas e Múltiplas-Saídas Multiplexação por Divisão Ortogonal em Frequência (MIMO-OFDM), incluindo a diversidade de polarização, através da álgebra de quatérnions. A utilização da álgebra de quatérnions permite melhorias no desempenho em diversas métricas do sistema de comunicações. Sistemas Multiple-Input and Multiple-Output -Múltiplas-Entradas e Múltiplas-Saídas (MIMO) baseados em Space-Time Block Code -Código de Bloco Espaço-Temporal (STBC) tradicionais, i.e. projetos ortogonais complexos, possuem seu desempenho limitado quando são usadas mais de duas antenas transmissoras. O mesmo não ocorre em projetos ortogonais quaterniônicos, permitindo ganhos de diversidade maiores, sem comprometer a complexidade do receptor.
