Two Cases of 18 F-FDG PET/CT Findings in Acinar Cell Carcinoma of the Pancreas

Abstract: The patients consisted of a 60-year-old woman and a 72-year-old man with no significant symptoms, who were both referred to the hospital due to the presence of large pancreatic tumors. They underwent F-18 FDG PET/CT and subsequently a pancreaticoduodenectomy and acinar cell carcinoma in the pancreas was proven histopathologically. In one case, the tumor consisted of a solid component presenting intense FDG uptake and necrotic tissue. In another case, the tumor consisted of cystic and papillary components prese… Show more

“…In PET/CT, ACC of the pancreas are likely to demonstrate a high FDG uptake [ 21 , 29 , 32 – 34 ] in line with its relative aggressiveness. But sometimes the tumors may present weak FDG activity, [ 33 , 35 , 36 ] which might be due to cystic degeneration [ 33 ] or extensive and various degrees of clear cell change. [ 36 ] In our cases, increased FDG activity was demonstrated in both of the tumors with a wide range of SUVs (SUVmax 3.5–9.4) that is consistent with the literature.…”

“…Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm is a relatively rare low-grade malignant tumor that can occur anywhere in the pancreas 5,6 . Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm should be differentiated from acinar cell carcinoma, 7 serous cystadenoma, 8 mucinous cystadenoma, 9 and neuroendocrine tumor 10 . 68 Ga-labeled FAPI has recently been introduced as a promising tumor imaging agent 11,12 .…”
