Two Branched Silicone Resins with Different Reactive Groups: A Comparative Evaluation

Abstract: In this study, vinyl-terminated polysiloxane (abbreviated VISR) and allyl-terminated polysiloxane (abbreviated ALSR) were synthesized and characterized. The curing behaviors and viscoelastic and thermal properties of VISR/PHSR and ALSR/PHSR were comparatively investigated. DSC and in situ FT-IR spectroscopy can be adopted to study the influence of molecular structures on reactivity. The results prove that ALSR/PHSR shows higher reactivity including a higher reaction rate constant and cure degree than VISR/PHSR… Show more

“…Silicate Resin is mainly a milky whitish compound, waterbased and formed from Silicon and Carbon elements. This compound has a 3-D polymeric structure with Si-O-Si backbone chains and organic R groups linking with silicon atoms (Jia et al 2009, Zhan et al 2018, which provides a hydrophobic resistance against water, and high resistance to heat.…”

“…The increments mentioned before can be attributed to the following: as more heat is released with an increased heating rate, the temperature gradient between the reaction center and the external environment due to thermal inertia increases. [35,45,46] The exothermic peak temperature is believed to shift to a higher temperature zone for compensation. [47] The DSC curves of BNPF/HMTA resin show two distinct exothermic peaks.…”

“…Basically, monohydrotrisiloxanes (e.g., Heptamethyltrisiloxane) react with trialkoxyvinylsilanes; then, branched siloxanes and low molar mass alkanes are generated in the presence of BCF (B(C 6 F 5 ) 3 ) as a catalyst [25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33], whereas in order to obtain carbosiloxanes, the other type of reaction has to be applied (Figure 1). It can include hydrosilylation process, for instance, which is based on the addition reaction between unsaturated bonds (e.g., CH=CH 2 ) and silicon−hydrogen (Si−H) bonds in the presence of a platinum complex catalyst [34][35][36]. Another group are dendrimers, consisting of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) as a core, obtained utilizing various techniques, depending on the groups introduced into POSS core.…”
