“…The challenge is to move from the one-size-fits-all premise of mass production towards a housing product that is more tailored to fit the needs of low-income households (UN-Habitat, 2011, p. 75). According to Bouillon (2012)[1], the shift from quantity to quality requires that developers increase the value of the housing product by 1) developing a deeper understanding of consumer needs and 2) designing production systems that expand consumer choice without losing the efficiency gained from standardization and mass production. Conceptually, the implementation of lean construction has the potential to help materialize Bouillon’s recommendations.…”
