In this article, two two-dimensional and three-dimensional metal–organic frameworks are synthesized by the self-assembly of copper(I) halide and the hexamethylenetetramine (hmt) ligand. Compound 1 is a two-dimensional metal–organic framework composed of a pyramidal Cu 4 I 5 cluster and hexamethylenetetramine, in which hmt-bridged Cu clusters form a two-dimensional (4,4)-connected net with a point symbol of (4 4 ·6 2 ) (4 4 ·6 2 ). Compound 2 is a homochiral three-dimensional metal–organic framework material generated through an unusual spontaneous crystallization from achiral precursors. The two compounds were characterized by a series of analyses such as infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, circular dichroism spectroscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction. Both of them exhibit unexpected stability under a wide range of conditions of acid and base. In addition, the fluorescence intensity changes regularly under acid–base conditions. Stokes shift shows a good linear relationship with −log [H + ], which makes them become promising acid–base sensors. Compounds 1 and 2 also display selective adsorption and a significant degradation effect on the organic dye methylene blue. In addition, the fluorescence study indicated that compound 2 could be used as a sensor to detect Cr 3+ .

Among the recent developments in metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), porous layered coordination polymers (CPs) have garnered attention due to their modular nature and tunable structures. These factors enable a number of properties and applications, including gas and guest sorption, storage and separation of gases and small molecules, catalysis, luminescence, sensing, magnetism, and energy storage and conversion. Among MOFs, two-dimensional (2D) compounds are also known as 2D CPs or 2D MOFs. Since the discovery of graphene in 2004, 2D materials have also been widely studied. Several 2D MOFs are suitable for exfoliation as ultrathin nanosheets similar to graphene and other 2D materials, making these layered structures useful and unique for various technological applications. Furthermore, these layered structures have fascinating topological networks and entanglements. This review provides an overview of different aspects of 2D MOF layered architectures such as topology, interpenetration, structural transformations, properties, and applications.

Catalytic Application of Tactically Aligned Cd(II)‐Based Luminescent 3D‐Supramolecular Networks

A new Cd(II) based coordination polymers {[Cd(Azopy)(H2O)4]⋅(NDC)}n (1) has been designed and synthesized by using 4,4′‐Azopyridine (Azopy), and 2, 6‐Naphthalene dicarboxylic acid (NDC) as a linker at ambient condition. The bulk purity of the 1 was analysed by powder X‐ray diffraction (PXRD) analysis, infrared spectroscopy and further confirmed by single crystal X‐ray studies. The crystal structure of 1 revealed a polythreading feature where each 2, 6‐naphthalene dicarboxylate unit are trapped between two one‐dimensional (1D) chain of [Cd(Azopy)(H2O)4]∞ via strong hydrogen bonding interactions. The hydrogen bonding and π⋅⋅⋅π stacking interactions of 1 play a crucial role in the formation of the infinite 3D‐layered supramolecular network. Furthermore, the reduction of nitro‐aromatics to their corresponding amines was performed using green hydrogen source such as D‐glucose in H2O solvent at room temperature. Additionally, the dye adsorption studies revealed that 1 can adsorb Congo Red (CR) dye in a very short span of time. The kinetic study result reveals that the adsorption of CR for 1 is fitted well (R2 =0.996) with a pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model. Moreover, photoluminescence of 1 shows emission in the blue region with λmax at 395 nm and 408 nm at room temperature in the solid state. 1 shows multi‐facet behaviour such as facile synthesis, luminescent nature in solids‐state, emerged as a heterogeneous dye‐adsorbent and catalyst which makes it easy to scaled‐up.
