Twinbase: Open-Source Server Software for the Digital Twin Web

Abstract: Digital twins are expected to form a network, a "Digital Twin Web", in the future. Digital Twin Web follows a similar structure to the World Wide Web and consists of meta-level digital twins that are described as digital twin description documents and distributed via Digital Twin Web servers. Standards must be established before the Digital Twin Web can be used efficiently, and having an easily accessible server implementation can foster the development of those standards. Twinbase is an open-source, Git-based… Show more

“…For example, Autiosalo et al [ 92 ] propose an open-source git-based server software to build DT webs, i.e., to build networks of DTs with a similar structures to that of the World Wide Web. The DT Web is created with a combination of standards and technologies.…”

“…In others, DT can be coupled with XR technologies to support modeling, simulation, and evaluation of manufacturing systems [24,25]. In addition, to contain and handle meta-level DTs, an open-source, Git-based Digital Twin Web server Twinbase was provided [26].…”

“…Nevertheless, the TwinXR method is generic and compatible with different specifications. With DT documents describing different DTs and relations among them, we can expect the emergence of a global network of interlinked DTs, the "Digital Twin Web" (DTW) (Autiosalo et al, 2021). Resembling the World Wide Web (WWW), the DTW is expected to have similar standards of open availability, connectivity, and extendability.…”
