“…Several alternative modalities, including intense pulse light and photodynamic therapy, have proven beneficial for treatment-resistant CMs, although a significant response or complete resolution is only seen in approximately 50% of patients for both modalities. [30][31][32][33] VENOUS MALFORMATIONS Venous malformations (VMs) are the most common vascular malformation, accounting for 44-64% of all vascular malformations. 34 They are classified according to the Hamburg classification 35 as truncular or extratruncular, with 40% of lesions localized to the extremities, 20% on the trunk and 40% on the head and neck.…”

“…Gu et al [29,30] reported that among 1942 PWS lesions in 1385 patients treated by either PSD-007 or HMME from April 1991 to May 2003 showed that, after one PDT treatment session, total clearance was achieved in 128 lesions (6.6%), achieved excellent results, 746 (38.3%) good results, 923 (47.4%) fair results, 145 (7.4%) results, and seven (0.3%) with no visible change. Their data showed that PDT was an effective treatment in all patients with PWS, especially for dark-skinned patients or patients with papules or nodules.…”

“…2,3 It is known that light, photosensitizer and oxygen are the three primary factors for PDT but photosensitizer is the key important one. An ideal photosensitizer should possess high PDT activity but low dark toxicity as well as fast clearance from tissues, in addition, it should be readily delivered but not seriously sacri¯ce the PDT activity in vivo.…”
