Abstract: Virtual Reality painting is a form of 3D-painting done in a Virtual Reality (VR) space. Being a relatively new kind of art form, there is a growing interest within the creative practices community to learn it. Currently, most users learn using community posted 2D-videos on the internet, which are a screencast recording of the painting process by an instructor. While such an approach may sufce for teaching 2D-software tools, these videos by themselves fail in delivering crucial details that required by the user… Show more

“…Interactive video tutorials have been studied intensively for various domains, such as software learning [1,4,11,23,24,29,39,49,53] or physical activity [12,25,38]. Prior work has investigated both the facilitation for authors to generate interactive video tutorials [11,12,25,51] and for users to effectively follow the video instructions [1,24,53].…”

“…Artists are able to create these models by using VR controllers to add geometry inside the specified grid offering the feeling of “sculpting” in the air in VR space. In 2016, Medium (Oculus Medium, 2018) built into its software the ability to have an artist invite another person into their virtual workspace (Thoravi Kumaravel et al , 2019), but whilst this may have been revolutionary at the time, it was limited, not allowing any interaction beyond audio. The artist was able to record him/herself in VR from multiple angles, which was useful, but without the visual interaction of other users, co-creation was restricted.…”
