Background: Prostatic artery embolization (PAE) is an emerging treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). However, changes in public interest in PAE over time, especially relative to interest in alternative BPH treatments, are difficult to assess. The online tool for analysis of the popularity of top search queries (Google Trends; Alphabet Inc) provides a relative search volume (RSV) of specified keywords and insight about patterns of user searches. Purpose:The purpose of this study is to assess changes in public interest in PAE over time and compare them with changes in public interest in alternative BPH treatments as indicated by search queries. Material and Methods:Using Google Trends, we identified the RSV of specified keywords within search queries submitted between 2010 and 2019 in the United States. The RSVs of keywords with high search volume were identified and normalized on a scale of values from 0 to 100. Interest in PAE was assessed by comparing RSVs and trends of the keyword PAE as well as of other prostate-treatment-related keywords. Prostate embolization was a PAE-related, BPH-treatment-specific keyword with the highest average RSV. A linear regression analysis was performed to characterize annual search trends of the use of these keywords. Subsequently, the annual search trend of prostate embolization was compared with that of keywords related to transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and minimally invasive surgical treatments (MISTs). Results:The mean annual RSV of prostate embolization increased by 8.6 fold between 2010 and 2019. However, during this period, the mean RSV of the keywords transurethral resection of the prostate and TURP were 3.6 and 49.3 times higher, respectively (P<0.0001), than the mean annual RSV of prostate embolization. Moreover, the MIST-related keywords rezum and urolift showed respective mean RSVs 3.1 and 9.0 times higher (P<0.0001) than the mean annual RSV of prostate embolization.Conclusions: Search query data can elucidate public interest in interventional radiologic (IR) procedures. An increase in RSVs of PAE keywords over time suggests increasing public knowledge of and about the procedure. However, the RSVs of PAE keywords is far lower than the RSVs of keywords related to urologic surgeries, suggesting the need for continued efforts to educate patients and providers about the nature and the values of IR procedures.

Purpose: Fever occurring post transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) due to urinary tract infection (UTI) is a wellknown complication. A better knowledge of pre-operative risk factors will aid the prevention and treatment of this complication. Herein we aimed to describe the risk factors for postoperative fever in a cohort of patients undergoing TURP in a single institute. Methods: A total of 177 patients underwent transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) between January 2016 and August 2017 in our Institute. Postoperative fever was defined as ≥ 38 • C up to a week after surgery. Other reasons for post-operative fever were excluded. We collected data for indwelling catheter, antibiotic prophylactic treatment, positive preoperative urine culture, diabetes mellitus (DM), combined cystolithotripsy and prostate size. Results: All patients received antibiotic prophylaxis prior to the TURP procedure. Patients with negative urine culture were treated with IV Amikacin + Ampicillin (n = 83), whereas patients with positive bacterial cultures were treated as per antibiotic sensitivity profile (n = 93). One patient developed fever in the negative culture group, compared to 8 in the positive urine culture group (P = 0.0375). No patient developed septic shock. Smaller prostate size (RR = 1.06, CI-95%, 1.01-1.12, P = 0.016), positive urine culture (RR = 3.85, CI-95%, 1.33-100, P = 0.033) and older age (RR = 1.1, CI-95%, 1.01-1.21, P= 0.031) were all predictors of postoperative fever. In contrast, TURP combined with cystolithotripsy (P = 0.99), indwelling urethral catheter (P = 0.155), and patients with DM (P = 0.256) were not predictors of postoperative fever. Conclusions: Positive urinary bacterial culture prior to TURP is a frequent event. Although positive urinary culture increased the risk of post TURP fever, none of these events caused significant morbidity. Surprisingly, a smaller prostate size increased the risk of postoperative fever. This fact suggests that the degree of infection is attributed to the level of obstruction and not to the volume of the prostate.

How can the signs and symptoms of transurethral resection prostate (TURP) syndrome be identified by nurses? This study aimed to develop a nursing instrument to assess TURP syndrome. TURP syndrome is a complication that potentially occurs during TURP surgery. It is a water intoxication related to hyponatremia and acid‐based imbalance. This syndrome should be recognized early in order to prevent fatality. This pilot study employed a participatory action research combined with statistical analysis for validity and reliability testing. Twenty‐eight Indonesian urological nurses and one urologist medical doctor were engaged in this study. Informed consent was obtained before study outset. The study was entirely accomplished at Muhammadiyah Hospital I and II, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Pearson's correlations test of each item was measured with correlation coefficient greater than 0·40 considered as evidence of satisfactory item convergence validity. The instrument reliability test was confirmed by Cronbach's α coefficients with score greater than 0·433 supposed as a reliable instrument. This study obtained a nursing instrument to assess TURP syndrome which involved 15 aspects as follows: disorientation, headaches, altered states of consciousness, visual disturbances, nausea and vomiting, hypertension, rhonchi sound, tachycardia, abnormal capillary refill‐time, tachypnea, hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, anaemia, increased urea and creatinine, and lower‐extremities oedema. A nursing instrument to assess TURP syndrome was established. Nevertheless, further investigation is required among patients who are suspected of having TURP syndrome to increase instrument accuracy.
