This study aimed to investigate the effects of the argumentation-based inquiry (ABI) approach on the analytical thinking skills of seventh-grade students using a mixed method. It was conducted in a secondary school in the Black Sea region of Turkey with seventh-grade students from two classes during the fall semester of the 2021–2022 academic year. The findings show that the application of the ABI approach in science classes is effective on the academic achievement of students. According to the analytical thinking test findings, a significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group in the post-test. The evaluation of the quantitative and qualitative findings revealed that the ABI approach used in science lessons had improved the analytical thinking skills of the experimental group students.

In this study, since it is aimed to determine the general trends of the researches on critical thinking skills carried out in Turkey between the years 2018-2021, the model of the research is; It is document analysis under the heading of analytical research. In the selection of the documents, the National Thesis Search Center of the Higher Education Council, Google Academic search engine, ULAKBİM and ERIC databases were used. The data obtained in the study; Interpreted by giving frequencies with the help of figures and tables. As a result of the research; In the studies, the survey model, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was used the most, the sample was primary school 4th grade students, and the most frequently used measurement tool; It was determined that it was the Critical Thinking Scale developed by Demir (2006). In the studies, it has been seen that applications for critical thinking are mostly done in Science and Turkish lessons.In the results of the research; primary school teachers' awareness of critical thinking is high,while pre-service teachers' awareness of secondary and primary school students' awareness of critical thinking is high;on the other hand, it is stated that all of the practice-oriented studies have a significant positive effect and in the textbooks and curricula; it has been determined that critical thinking skills are not sufficiently included.

The aim of this study is to examine the research on the critical thinking skills of teachers and pre-service teachers using a systematic review methodology. The study includes 26 articles published in Turkey and abroad between 2013 and 2022, as well as 4 master's theses published in Turkey. The research was categorized according to the publication year, type, purpose, method/design, sample level, sample size, data collection tools, data analysis method, and conclusions/recommendations in accordance with the systematic review methodology. The study revealed an increase in research on the critical thinking skills of teachers and pre-service teachers before the pandemic, with a relatively decrease in research during the pandemic. Quantitative designs were largely preferred in the research, with scale-type data collection tools being the most frequently used. The California Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory, developed by Facione, was found to be the most commonly used scale to measure the critical thinking skills of teachers and teacher pre-services. While the objectives of the research were similar, the results differed. In conclusion, there is no consensus in the literature regarding the critical thinking skills of teachers and pre-service teachers. Based on the results of the study, recommendations were made for researchers and teacher training institutions.
