Turbine Control strategies for wind farm power optimization

Abstract: In recent decades there has been increasing interest in green energies, of which wind energy is the most important one. In order to improve the competitiveness of the wind power plants, there are ongoing researches to decrease cost per energy unit and increase the efficiency of wind turbines and wind farms. One way of achieving these goals is to optimize the power generated by a wind farm. One optimization method is to choose appropriate operating points for the individual wind turbines in the farm. We have ma… Show more

“…Wind power is, for the most part, not a dispatchable form of energy; forecasts are not perfect, and an individual wind farm cannot be set to a desired production level unless the wind conditions are sufficient for that level of power. Managing a farm's variability and intermittency is still a big challenge, but recent research shows promising results in optimizing farm production . Knowledge of the amount of power that a wind farm will produce in a given hour, day, or year will improve the way that the farm is operated and financed.…”

“…This strategy can decrease the frequency and amplitude of the pitch system. The author compares the optimization results of these three down-regulation strategies in wind farm power in [5],. The result shows that constant rotor speed strategy can produce more power.…”

“…Their benefits and drawbacks are discussed in the article. In [3], the authors analyse and compare the simulation results of these three down-regulation strategies on the power optimization of wind farm. The result shows that constant rotor speed strategy can produce more power.…”

“…Therefore, down-regulation strategy is an important factor and it will affect the optimization result directly. Appropriate down-regulation strategy for individual turbine can improve the power production of the wind farm [3].…”
