Tuning the Efficiency of Dendritic Nanocarriers using Conformational Constraints

Abstract: A series of deoxycholic and cholic acid-derived oligomers were synthesized and their ability to extract hydrophilic dye molecules of different structure, size, and functional groups into nonpolar media was studied. The structure of the dye and "dendritic effect" in the extraction process was examined using absorption spectroscopy and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The efficiency of structurally preorganized oligomers in the aggregation process was evaluated by 1-anilinonaphthalene-8-sulfonic acid (ANS) fluore… Show more

“…The dissolved concentration of cresol D r a f t red probe was calculated based on the maximum absorption (426 nm) for each solution with ε max = 17500 M -1 cm -1 . 36 Molecular Modeling. A 150 ps molecular dynamics study was performed using HyperChem (Hypercube Inc.) for the formation of the inclusion complexes; dynamics were conducted at 273 K. A docking approach for molecular mechanics optimization was used so that the free energy of binding could be estimated.…”

“…Our group has extensively studied the self-assembly of a variety of bile-acid derivatives. We have reported bile acid-based sensors for cations and anions, [4] light harvesting dendrimers [5] and other dendritic structures that can solubilize cholesterol [6] and selectively extract dye molecules [7] from a mixture. Our current interest is on the supramolecular organo-, hydro-and metallogels derived from the bile acid backbone.…”

“…The condensation of carbonyl-containing compounds with primary amines produce Schiff base compounds bearing C=N double bonds, which is an essential structural requirement for biological activities, especially for antibacterial, antimicrobial, antifungi, and antitumor activities. [1][2][3][4] Benzohydrazone derivatives are a kind of special Schiff bases bearing -C=N-NH-CO-Ph functional groups. As is well known, Schiff bases derived from salicylaldehyde and its derivatives have interesting biological activities.…”
