“…We further investigated composite formation after pre-coating the ZnO particles in cetyl-trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), a single chain cationic surfactant that has previously been reported to influence ZIF-8 crystal size and morphology in standard (solvothermal) syntheses from metal salts. 25 In the presence of CTAB the degree of ZnO to ZIF-8 conversion is 1.6 times higher than that obtained with C 12 Gua under identical conditions, and SEM images indicate the microspherical shape is largely destroyed. (Figure S22, S23) This is in agreement with those composites prepared in the absence of any surfactant stabiliser ( Figure S10, S16, S17) and suggests that CTAB does not interact as strongly as C 12 Gua with the ZnO surface, further confirming the critical role of the guanidinium-based amphiphile in core-shell composite morphology control through oxide surface passivation.…”

“…Further secondary growth promotes the well-intergrown of grains with rhombic dodecahedral shapes (Pan et al, 2011a), resulting in the formation of continuous ZIF-8 membrane with random orientation (Fig. 1a and 1e).…”

“…21 Therefore, increasing effort has recently been devoted to developing green approaches without using any organic solvents to prepare ZIF-8. Although, several modied syntheses methods with adding modulating agents have been reported to promote the formation and tune textural property of ZIF-8 material, 17,22,23 it still remains a challenge to synthesize pure ZIF-8 crystals with highly regular particle morphology in water at room temperature without using any additives. Pan et al rst reported the successful synthesis of ZIF-8 in water at room temperature without using any additives.…”
