Tuning Hydrogen Storage in Lithium‐Functionalized BC2N Sheets by Doping with Boron and Carbon

Abstract: First-principles calculations are used to explore the strong binding of lithium to boron- and carbon-doped BC2N monolayers (BC2NBC and BC2NCN, respectively) without the formation of lithium clusters. In comparison to BC2N and BC2NCB, lithium-decorated BC2NBC and BC2NCN systems possess stronger s-p and p-p hybridization and, hence, the binding energy is higher. Lithium becomes partially positively charged by donating electron density to the more electronegative atoms of the sheet. Attractive van der Waals inter… Show more

“…198 Further decoration of BN/BCN surfaces with Ca and Li could further enhance the H 2 uptake capacities, as was documented theoretically. 97,98 These results indicate that there is still enormous potential remaining for developing BN and BCN-based H 2 accumulators. Water cleaning.…”

“…Among them, Li adsorption is especially attractive, because of its light weight with which a high gravimetric storage capacity could be easily achieved. Note also that Li-adsorbed carbon materials have been shown to possess relatively high gravimetric storage capacities with enhanced H 2 adsorption binding energies [9][10][11][12][13][14], through a charge-transfer induced polarization mechanism [2,[15][16][17].…”
