Tuning ground state degeneracy and quantum criticality in Ce1−xLaxTiGe

Abstract: We have tuned the paramagnetic heavy Fermion (HF) system CeTiGe to a more magnetic state and toward quantum criticality (QC) by partially substituting La for Ce. The induced volume expansion leads to a pronounced decrease of the Kondo temperature (T K ), from %50 K in pure CeTiGe to less than 4 K at large La content. Since the former value is of the order of the crystal field splitting, while the latter is well below, the systems evolves from a large degeneracy N ¼ 6 Kondo system at x ¼ 0 to a conventional N ¼… Show more

“…This comparison includes the well known CeCu 6−x Au x [27] and CeCu 6−x Ag x [65] Ce-lattices. Also the diluted (Ce 0.1 La 0.9 )TiGe [66] is included to confirm that this limit is related to thermodynamic properties independently of a lattice configuration. Other Ce diluted systems, like (Ce 1−x La x )Pt 3 Si [67], also exhibits similar high values for 0.8 ≤ x ≤ 0.95.…”

“…Au [17] and CeCu Ag [18] (that order magnetically), diluted (Ce La TiGe [15] and CeNi Ge [9] as representative of a compound. As it can be seen, experimental results suggest a sort of upper (or envelope) entropy curve for GS systems which is qualitatively represented by the dependence of CePd B…”
