Tuning Acidity of Sulfonated Mesoporous Polymers (MP−SO3H) for Efficient Tetrahydropyranylation of Alcohols at Room Temperature

Abstract: The sulfonated mesoporous polymers (MP−SO3H) with varying acidity were synthesized by template free solvothermal method followed by sulfonation at different intervals of time. The catalytic activities were tested for the tetrahydropyranylation of alcohols. Among the synthesized materials, MP−SO3H‐12 was found to be efficient and demonstrated the highest yield of pyranylated product which is superior in contrast to various heterogeneous catalysts screened. Furthermore, the substrate scope was extended to variou… Show more

“…The mesoporous polymers are the new class of materials having organic backbone and mesoporous architecture. The polymers can be used as the support for ionic liquids or as the catalysts in many organic transformations 47 50 .In this study, sulfonated mesoporous polymer (MP-SO 3 H) is presented as the best fitting candidate to transform various alcohols into corresponding alkyl methyl carbonate esters. The systematic study of different reaction parameters suggests that MP-SO 3 H is a potential catalyst to demonstrate more than 93% conversion of alcohols with > 95% selectivity to alkyl methyl carbonates together with high recycling efficiency.…”

“…These promising features of mesoporous polymer make it a potential candidate for heterogeneous catalysis. [68][69][70][71] In the present study, we have synthesized polyoxotungstate immobilized mesoporous polymer (PW 11 /MP) by template-free solvothermal approach. The catalytic activity of the PW 11 /MP catalyst was evaluated for the green oxidation benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde using H 2 O 2 .…”
