We consider the influence of topological phases, or their vicinity, on the spin density and spin polarization through a chiral chain. We show the quantization of the Berry phase in a one-dimensional polarization helix structure, under the presence of an external magnetic field, and show its influence on the spin density. The polar angle of the momentum space spin density becomes quantized in the regime that the Berry phase is quantized, as a result of the combined effect of the induced spin-orbit coupling and the external transverse magnetic field, while the edge states do not show the polar angle quantization, in contrast with the bulk states. Under appropriate conditions, the model can be generalized to have similarities with a chain with non-homogeneous Rashba spin-orbit couplings, with zero or low energy edge states. Due to the breaking of time-reversal symmetry, we recover the effect of chiral induced spin polarization and spin transport across the chiral chain, when coupling to external leads. Some consequences of the quantized spin polarization and low energy states on the spin transport are discussed.

Utilizing both the electric and magnetic fields to manipulate electron dynamics enables the external control of topological states. This study investigates the topological characteristics of a quasi-one-dimensional ladder lattice subjected to a time-periodic electric field and a constant magnetic field. The Floquet topological phases are determined in the high-frequency approximation. In the absence of a magnetic field ($\phi=0$), the energy band diagram is modulated by the electric field parameter $\alpha/\hbar\omega$, leading to a topological phase transition when $\alpha/\hbar\omega$ crosses the value of 1. When a magnetic field is present ($\phi=\pi$), the topological phase transitions in the ladder model are influenced by both the electric field parameter $\alpha/\hbar\omega$ and the perpendicular hopping $t_0$, resulting in a diverse range of adjustable topological states. These discoveries offer promising prospects for the utilization of ladder lattice systems with externally modifiable topological properties.

Zero-energy modes localized at the ends of one-dimensional (1D) wires hold great potential as qubits for fault-tolerant quantum computing. However, all the candidates known to date exhibit a wave function that decays exponentially into the bulk and hybridizes with other nearby zero-modes, thus hampering their use for braiding operations. Here, we show that a quasi-1D diamond-necklace chain exhibits an unforeseen type of robust boundary state, namely compact localized zero-energy modes that do not decay into the bulk. We find that this state emerges due to the presence of a latent symmetry in the system. We experimentally realize the diamond-necklace chain in an electronic quantum simulator setup.
