Tunable Morphologies From Bulk Self‐Assemblies of Poly(acryloxypropyl triethoxysilane)‐b‐poly(styrene)‐b‐poly(acryloxypropyl triethoxysilane) Triblock Copolymers

Abstract: International audienceReactive poly(acryloxypropyl triethoxysilane)-b-poly(styrene)-b-poly(acryloxypropyl triethoxysilane) (PAPTES-b-PS-b-PAPTES) triblock copolymers are prepared through nitroxide-mediated polymerization (NMP). The bulk morphologies formed by this class of copolymers cast into films are examined by small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The films morphology can be tuned from spherical structures to lamellar structures by increasing the volume fraction o… Show more

“…2,9 Synthesis of polyethylene oxide -copolyethylethylenes based tough polymersomes were reported by Discher et al 12 Gamys et al prepared micelles of block copolymers of styrene with acryloxypropyl triethyl silane. 13 Du et al. reported on the preparation of hybrid vesicles of poly(ethylene oxide)-block-poly (3-trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate with better rigidity and shape based on polycondensation reactions within the polymer vesicles.…”

“…Beyou and co‐workers examined the self‐assembly of triblock copolymers PS 272 ‐ b ‐PTESPA 130,224,290,336 ‐ b ‐PS 260‐293 and PTESPA 113 ‐ b ‐PS 82,158,330,489 ‐ b ‐PTESPA 82‐120 in bulk via small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) and the mechanical properties of the corresponding cross‐linked self‐assembled films were characterized by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The self‐assembled films were prepared by solvent casting from toluene.…”

“…After hydrolysis‐condensation of the films in acidic medium, the hybrid films showed enhanced mechanical properties as evidenced by an increase in the dynamic storage modulus and a shift of the glass transition temperature toward higher temperatures. Regarding the triblock copolymer PTESPA‐ b ‐PS‐ b ‐PTESPA with the “inverse” structure, for PS volume fraction of up to 23.1 %, a spherical morphology was obtained with an average diameter of 17.5 nm and an average d ‐spacing of 23.3 nm (Figure a). The latter spherical morphology became a cylindrical morphology (Figure b) and then lamellar (Figure c) when increasing the PS volume content from 23.1 to 36.0 and 43.7 %, respectively.…”
