Tunable dual-wavelength continuous-wave diode laser operated at 830 nm

Abstract: An external grating cavity semiconductor diode laser is made to operate simultaneously at two separately adjustable wavelengths. Lasing is restricted to the vicinity of the solitary laser 6talon resonances.

“…77, the linewidth of the beat frequency of the two modes is narrower than that of individual laser modes because of the common-mode rejection effect for the two modes oscillating in the same cavity. External cavity dual-mode semiconductor lasers have been realized in a variety of methods, such as those with a double grating, 56,133 grating-lens, 134 grating-double-slit, 134 grating-double-stripe-mirror 73,135 configurations, etc.…”

“…To achieve two-colour operation, a beamsplitter is introduced into the cavity and a second grating is used to feed back and spectrally control the second beam. The output beam is then collected from the unused path of the beamsplitter or the back facet of the diode laser [59,60]. A major problem of this configuration is that it includes rather high losses in the cavity due to the beamsplitter and the outcoupling through the uncoated laser diode facet.…”

“…External cavity dual-mode semiconductor lasers have been realized in a variety of methods, such as those with a doublegrating [35,36], grating-lens [37], grating-double-slit [38] or grating-double-stripe-mirror [39][40][41] configurations, etc. For example, Wang and Pan [39] used a laser diode (LD) array combined with an external cavity consisting of a grating, a focus lens and a V-shaped double-stripe end mirror.…”
