Tumour Associated Antigens CA 15.3 and CA 125 in Ovarian Cancer

Abstract: CA 125 and CA 15.3 antigens were determined by enzyme immunoassay in 78 patients with ovarian cancer for a total of 540 determinations. The antigens were also investigated in sera from 100 women with other gynaecological diseases, 82 lung cancer patients and in 39 pleural fluids of varying origin. CA 15.3 reference values were evaluated in 91 healthy women (cut-off: 25 U/ml). CA 15.3 sensitivity at diagnosis (60%) and for detecting relapse (44%) was lower than that of CA 125 (90% and 64.7%, respectively). Howe… Show more

“…[20,21] CA15.3 CA15.3 is an aspecific tumor marker characteristic of cancer proliferation and the elevated levels of CA15.3 have been associated with ovarian malignancy, measurement of this biomarker has been proposed to be of some clinical value in combination with CA125 for diagnosis and monitoring of ovarian cancer. [22,23] ApoA2 ApoA2 is the second most abundant apolipoprotein of high-density lipoproteins, which modulate cholesterol transport and metabolism and concentrations of ApoA2 is higher in malignant compared with either borderline or benign ovarian cyst fluids.…”

“…On the other hand, another tumor marker CA15-3, which is reported to be high in 70% of the cases with advanced ovarian carcinoma (17) , was within normal limits in all our cases with peritoneal tuberculosis contrary to the high levels of serum CA125. Because the serum CA15-3 level was not reported to be elevated in mesothelial reactions unlike the serum CA125 level (18) , the true positivity may increase when the CA15-3 level has been added to the investigation work in cases suspected with peritoneal tuberculosis.…”
