Tumores neuroendócrinos do cólon e reto: experiência do Instituto Nacional do Câncer no Brasil

Abstract: The treatment of colon and rectal NETs is complex, because it depends of the individuality of each patient. With adequate management, the prognosis can be favorable with long survival, but it is related to the tumor differentiation degree, efficacy of the chosen treatment and to the patient adhesion to the follow-up after treatment.

“…Most rectal carcinoid tumors are small and movable subepithelial lesions located between 4 and 20 cm above the dentate line and are mainly discovered incidentally on routine lower endoscopy (7, 8, 9, 10). Such a small tumor rarely metastasizes and endoscopic resection is curative.…”

“…Colorectal NENs are mostly non-functional, and while often presenting similarly to adenocarcinomas, are both pathologically and in terms of their behavior quite distinct (Portale et al, 2012;Cesar et al, 2013). It has long been widely recognized that there are distinct differences in terms of the epidemiology, clinical manifestations and prognosis between rightand left-sided colorectal adenocarcinomas, with the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines (Benson et al, 2017) confirming the significance of the primary tumor location in the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).…”
