Tumor growth activity of duloxetine in Ehrlich carcinoma in mice

Abstract: ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to analyze whether duloxetine influences tumor growth in Ehrlich carcinoma. The mice were administered 5 or 30 mg/kg of duloxetine or saline solution. All animals were inoculated with tumor cells. The tumor progression was evaluated by body weight, abdominal circumference, ascites volume and tumor cell count. The effect of duloxetine on immune response was evaluated by lymphoid cells, nitric oxide (NO) production, arginase and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and the… Show more

“…The tumor control group was treated with 12% (v/v) Tween-80 in saline. On the eighth day, the animals were anesthetized with ketamine (100 mg/kg) and xylazine hydrochloride (16 mg/kg), and then euthanized [25]. Total viable cancer cells were obtained as the product of the tumor volume (mL) by cell viability (number of cells × 10 6 /mL).…”

“…studies using animal models have found that behavioral stress stimulates the rapid progression of ovarian (46), pancreatic (47), prostate (48), and breast (49) carcinomas and malignant melanomas (50). Duloxetine is commonly used to treat depression and is suggested as an adjuvant therapy for cancer pain management (51).…”
