Tubulointerstitial lesions of patients with lupus nephritis classified by the 2003 International Society of Nephrology and Renal Pathology Society system

Abstract: The 2003 International Society of Nephrology/Renal Pathology Society (ISN/RPS) system for classifying patients with lupus nephritis was based on glomerular lesions exclusively, despite the fact that lupus nephritis affects all compartments of the kidney. Hence, we analyzed the tubulointerstitial lesions in patients with lupus nephritis within the different classes and subclasses of the 2003 ISN/RPS system. Among 313 patients from five centers in northern China with lupus nephritis, interstitial inflammatory ce… Show more

“…[4][5][6][7] In renal transplants, this will be associated with progression when compared to controls that have atrophy scarring, with no inflammation because inflammation in areas of atrophy scarring indicates a more active or recent injury process than atrophy fibrosis with no inflammation, reflecting recent or ongoing stress. In some cases, this will follow severe treated TCMR, often due to nonadherence, but this does not justify the conclusion that the cognate TCMR process is still active.…”

“…Scores ranging from 0 (normal) to 3 (most severely inflamed) were assigned for each of the 3 features, as described. 15,16 A minimum of 10 glomeruli were assessed in each mouse. The albumin/creatinine ratio was calculated by measuring separately urine creatinine by ELISA (R&D Systems) and albuminuria by ELISA (KA-MIYA Biomedical Company).…”
