“…This variant is found in other populations: Admixed Americans 7E-5, Europeans 5E-5, and Asians 3.7E-5. A number of patients have been published with this variant, most of them appear to have a milder clinical presentation, including two who had normal cholestanol (4,30,38,56,69,74,75,(77)(78)(79)(80)(81)(82)(83).…”

“…In recent years clinical genetic testing has surged and new biochemical markers have been developed for testing of CTX including 5β-cholestane-3α,7α,12α,25-tetrol-3-O-β-d-glucuronide (25-tetrol glucuronide), 5β-cholestane-3α,7α,12α,23S,25-pentol (23S-pentol), 7α-hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one (aka 7αC4 or 7aHCO) and 7α,12α-dihydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one (aka 7α12αC4 or 7α12α-diHCO) (30,(66)(67)(68). These markers appear to be more sensitive than cholestanol and their use has led to reports of individuals with CTX who have elevations in these markers while having normal or slightly above normal cholestanol (30,(69)(70)(71)(72)(73)(74)(75)(76). populations.…”
