“…It is important to note that these strains were isolated from R. prolixus (Table 1), the main vector of Chagas disease in Colombia (Molina et al 2000;Moncayo 2003). In this respect, some studies have revealed variability in different T. cruzi populations from diverse triatomid species (Solari et al 1998;Brenière et al 1998b) and showed differential susceptibility to triatomid infection by the parasite (Cerisola et al 1971;Perlowagora-Szumlewicz et al 1988). In a parallel investigation, we have seen that T. cruzi I strains included in this study isolated from R. prolixus exhibited larger infectivity to Vero cells than strains isolated from T. dimidiata (Luna et al unpublished data).…”
