Trypanocidal Activity of 2,5-Diphenyloxazoles Isolated from the Roots of Oxytropis lanata

Abstract: Eleven 2,5-diphenyloxazole derivatives (1-11), together with six known isoflavonoid derivatives, were isolated from the roots of Oxytropis lanata. The 2,5-diphenyloxazole (1) obtained proved to be identical to a standard sample used as a scintillator and liquid laser dye. The other oxazole derivatives isolated were found to have one to four hydroxy and/or O-methyl groups in their phenyl rings. Seven of the oxazole derivatives obtained are new (3-9). The inhibitory activity of the isolated compounds was evaluat… Show more

“…Thus, oxazoles specially having a phenyl moiety may be effective pharmaceuticals. While records on the biological effects of natural oxazole are not more, there are two reports on the antibacterial activity of texamine and texaline isolated from Amyristexana (Rutaceae) . Molecular structure of 2,5‐diphenyl oxazole(2,5‐DPO) in Figure (a) show mono‐oxygenase activity in human placental tissue .…”

“…2,5‐Diaryloxazoles ( 1 – 5 ) under the current study are depicted in Figure . Compounds 2 and 4 were isolated from the roots of Oxytropis lanata and compound 2 displayed the most potent trypanocidal activity (IC 50 1.0 μM) whereas compounds 1 , 3 , and 5 are new synthetic 2,5‐diaryloxazoles. In continuation of our research efforts directed towards the synthesis of bioactive natural products and their analogues as NO inhibitors, herein, we report an efficient synthesis and in vitro biological assessment of oxazoles 1 – 5 .…”
