The emergence of a moral power of the state-legitimacy through accountability and prosecution of perpetrators of human rights abuses-provides a new dimension of power in Latin American countries. Following a normative international approach, this article presents the relevance of truth commissions for the consolidation of a decisive democratic turn in Latin American countries, highlighting the relevance of having a trustworthy morality of the state through just policies toward its citizens. Truth commissions are important tools to restore citizens' trust in their authorities and set the basis for reconciliation. By engaging in active restorative and transitional justice, states can be reconciled, and the conditions for an effective peacebuilding within borders can be established as pillars of an improved, stronger democratic state, as the cases of truth commissions in Argentina and Chile represent. By examining the outcomes of these commissions, I argue that a truth commission in Mexico could promote a much-needed reconciliation.La emergencia del poder moral del Estado-entendido como la legitimidad a través de la rendición de cuentas y enjuiciamiento de aquellos que llevaron a cabo abuso de derechos humanos-provee una nueva dimensión de poder para los países de América Latina. Al seguir un enfoque normativo internacional, este artículo presenta la relevancia de las Comisiones de Verdad para la consolidación de un giro democrático decisivo en los países de América Latina, donde se destaca la importancia de tener una moral del Estado digna de confianza por parte de sus ciudadanos a partir de la implementación de políticas públicas justas. las Comisiones de la Verdad representan una herramienta útil para reestablecer la confianza de los ciudadanos en sus autoridades y sienta las bases para una reconciliación. Mediante la participación activa en una justicia restaurativa y transicional, la reconciliación sería posible y las condiciones para una consolidación efectiva de la paz dentro de las fronteras pueden establecerse como los pilares de un Estado democrático más fuerte y mejorado, así como lo presentan los casos de Argentina y Chile. Mediante el análisis de los resultados de las Comisiones de Verdad en dichos países, afirmo que una Comisión de la Verdad en México puede promover una reconciliación que es cada vez más necesaria.
