“…Each fraction was collected according to the atmospheric equivalent temperature (AET). Sbaite et al () reported the equation for AET: AET=748.1×A1T+0.3861×A0.000516060.25em271.1. where AET is in °C, A is the value obtained from equation (2) and T is the experimental temperature (K). A=5.9991972()0.9774472×logP2663.129()95.76×logP where P is experimental system pressure (mmHg).…”

“…The technique is based upon short path distillation in high vacuum conditions (0.1 Pa), which represents a smaller operational temperature and a smaller exposure time of the distilled liquid on the heated surface. In addition, research carried out and in progress at LDPS/LOPCA/UNICAMP-Petrobras Sbaite et al, 2006;Zuñiga Liñan et al, 2010) has demonstrated the TBP curves can be extended above 838.15 K, which represents a gain of over 70-80% in mass of the petroleum residue yield, compared with the 30-60% in mass obtained by conventional methods. The molecular distillation of petroleum residues is a complex process characterized by nonlinear dynamic and space-varying behavior.…”

“…This process has been applied to lipid-containing products, including monoglycerides production (12), recovery of carotenoids from palm oil (13), and purification of structured lipids (14). Also, it can be applied to fuel product, like production of biodiesel from castor oil (15) and heavy petroleum characterization (16). Ito et al (17) studied the recovery of tocopherols and FFAs from SODD in function of the ratio (distillate flow rate [D]/residue flow rate [R]) of 0.96, and the tocopherol and FFA recovery curves had an optimum point at 73%.…”
