Triterpenes with healing activity: A systematic review

Abstract: The purpose of this review was to systematically evaluate the literature on the efficacy of triterpenes for wound healing. We searched for original studies in the Medline, SCIDIRECT and LILACS databases published from 1910 to 2013. For each study, the title, abstract and full article were evaluated by two reviewers. We identified 2181 studies; however, after application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, only 12 studies were subjected to further review. In surgical wounds, the triterpenes induced a reduc… Show more

“…This group of compounds contains a wide range of molecules that participate in many biological reactions. Triterpenes may induce cell migration, proliferation, and collagen deposition [ 55 ]. Triterpenes also enhance the tissue repair by reducing the length of time for wound closure, and modulating the production of ROS in the wound microenvironment [ 55 ].…”

“…Lupeol, a member of triterpenes, identified in elm bark with quantity of 800 μg/g. Some beneficial effects of lupeol are anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-microbial, anti-cancer, and cell proliferative properties Agra et al 2015). The effects of lupeol on PCOS has been investigated previously by Rezaei-Golmisheh et al (2017).…”

“…In careful injuries, the triterpenes instigated a decrease so as to conclusion, and this impact was accounted for in for all intents and purposes every single injury type. Triterpenes likewise regulate the creation of ROS in the injury microenvironment, quickening the procedure of tissue fix [36]. In reality, this class of compounds introduces a few natural exercises, including mitigating, cancer prevention agent, hostile to viral, against diabetic, hostile to tumor, hepato-defensive and cardio-defensive exercises [34,37,39].…”
