“…We found that H. pylori recurrence was the highest in medium‐ and low‐HDI countries (10.9%, 95% CI 6‐18), followed by those with a high HDI (6.2%, 95% CI 4‐8) or a very high HDI (3.1%, 95% CI 2‐4). These results are consistent with reports by Gisbert et al and Niv et al However, Ireland, Chile, Singapore, Greece, Korea, have a very high HDI and higher recurrence rates. Only one study was conducted in Singapore, with a small sample size and a short duration were included, although the results may not reflect the true recurrence rate of H. pylori in that country.…”

“…The results of our three clinical studies with omeprazole and amoxycillin regimens confirmed the findings of numerous earlier reports that H. pylori eradication significantly reduces duodenal ulcer recurrence rates 16 –65 . Among patients in the three studies who were eradicated of H. pylori after treatment, 8% (13/159) experienced a recurrence of an endoscopically confirmed duodenal ulcer within 6 months, compared to 45% (155/343) among patients who remained infected after treatment.…”

The overall duodenal ulcer recurrence rates for patients who were H. pylori positive and negative at least 4 weeks after treatment are shown in Figure 2 and Table 3 for all the uncontrolled studies combined.…”

“…Side effects of this therapy were mild and well tolerated: In this and other studies, no patients dropped out . _ of the study [7]. Moreover Therefore, treating patients in remission with antibiotics can obviate maintenance therapy and also (in cases of relapse) can permit a prolonged treatment-free period.…”
