In this study, triple pelvic osteotomy (TPO) was carried out in a total of 22 dysplastic dogs, of which 9 were treated bilaterally and 13 unilaterally, and the position of the acetabulum was changed in a total of 31 hip joints using a special plate. It was established that, of the treated hip joints, 16 had severe, 12 medium and 3 mild dysplasia, the Norberg angle was between 70–92° and that the covering rate of the acetabulum over the femoral head changed between 5–42°. In the radiographs taken immediately after the operation, the covering rate of the acetabulum over the femoral head was determined to be very good in 25 hip joints (75% and over) and good in 6 joints (60–75%). In 5 cases, some of the screws holding the plate in place were seen to loosen in radiographs. However, this did not have any effect on the angle given to the acetabulum. In radiographs obtained 6–48 months later, degenerative joint disease was not encountered in 29 cases, with the exception of 2 cases. It was concluded that hip dysplasia, which is a hereditary disease, can be treated reasonably successfully in young dogs with TPO carried out before degenerative changes begin to occur in the joint.

Triple pelvic osteotomy (TPO) is one of the main surgical procedures to prevent or modify the progress of degenerative joint disease (DJD) related with hip dysplasia in young dogs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of TPO in dogs. In this study, TPO were performed in 7 dysplastic cross-breed dogs in different gender (6 female and 1 male) and body weight (13.42±2.29 kg). In all cases, 20 degrees canine TPO plates were used. Before the operation, all cases were examined clinical, radiological and by computed tomographic. Postoperative 2 nd and 6 th weeks dogs were examined clinical, radiological and by computed tomographic and after 6 month both clinical and radiological examinations were performed. The joint laxity decreased 2 weeks after the operation. Dogs could walk on the treated leg after 2 weeks. The joint laxity decreased 2 weeks after the operation. Postoperatively dogs could walked on the treated leg after 2 weeks. The postoperatively measured Norberg angles (P<0.01) and acetabular anteversion angle (P<0.05) were significantly higher and distance between caput femoris and acetabulum was significantly lower (P<0.05) than preoperatively measurements. So, contact surface between the femoral head and the acetabulum had increased and the subluxation had disappeared. In radiographs obtained 6 months later, degenerative joint disease was not encountered. It was decided that canine hip dysplasia, could be treated successfully in young dogs via TPO, carried out before degenerative changes begin within the hip joints. Bu çalışmanın amacı, köpeklerde TPO'nun etkilerini araştırmaktır. Bu çalışmada, farklı cinsiyet (6 dişi, 1 erkek) ve vücut ağırlığındaki (13.42±2.29 kg) displazik 7 köpekte TPO yapıldı. Bütün olgularda, 20º canin TPO plağı kullanıldı. Operasyon öncesi tüm olguların klinik, radyolojik ve bilgisayarlı tomografi ile muayeneleri yapıldı. Köpekler operasyon sonrası 2. ve 6. haftalarda klinik, radyolojik, bilgisayarlı tomografik muayene ve 6 ay sonra hem klinik hem de radyolojik muayeneleri yapılarak takip edildi. Operasyondan 2 hafta sonra eklem gevşekliği azaldı. Köpekler operasyon sonrası 2 haftada tedavi edilen bacakları üzerinde yürüyebiliyorlardı. Postoperatif ölçülen Norberg açıları (P<0.01) ve asetabular antreversiyon açısı (P<0.05) preoperatif değere göre yüksekti ve kaput femoris ve asetabulum arasındaki mesafe belirgin olarak düşük bulundu. Bu nedenle, asetabulum ve kaput femoris arasındaki temas yüzeyi artarak, subluksasyon kayboldu. Altı ay sonra elde edilen radyografilerde, dejeneratif eklem hastalığına rastlanmadı. Análise da locomoção de cães portadores de displasia coxofemoral com o sistema de baropodometria

DEDICATÓRIAThe animals were handled across force platform, at the walk, on the left side of the handler, at a constant speed. Twenty trials were recorded to database formation of peak vertical forces (PVF), vertical impulses (VI) and stance phase of forelimbs and hind limbs of the dogs with hip dysplasia and the same to healthy dogs. Five valid trials were obtained for statistical analysis. Among dogs, ground reaction forces were normalized and expressed as percentage of body weight (%BW). The average of stance phase for forelimbs and hind limbs of group I was 0,442 s ± 0,09, e 0,437s ± 0,088, respectively. In group II the values were 0,482 s ± 0,002 for forelimbs and 0,450 s ± 0,006 for hind limbs. In group I, the peak vertical force (PVF) and vertical impulse (VI) for forelimbs were 44,03%BW ± 4,7 and 12,52 %BW/s ± 4,04, respectively, and 27,87%BW ± 4,5 and 7,88 %BW/s ± 2,9 for hind limbs. In group II, the values of PVF and VI for forelimbs were 44,04%BW ± 6,7 e 13,08%BW/s ± 4,5,respectively. For hind limbs the average value of PVF 21,75%BW ± 5,7 and the average of VI was 6,3%BW/s ± 2,7. Peak vertical force was significantly decreased in hind limbs of group II when compared with group I (p=0.062). The other values of stance phase, PVF e VI for fore and hind limbs had no statistical difference. These values indicated decreased loading function in hind limbs of dogs with hip dysplasia, during the locomotion. The database of dogs with hip dysplasia, at the walk, was formed with these results and can be used in futures evaluations of various models of treatment for hip dysplasia.
