Triple-loop learning : theoretical framework, methodology & illustration

Show more

“…6 doIng THIngS rIgHT and doIng THe rIgHT THIngS After over a decade of trial and error, the time has come to review lessons learnt before further attempts to estimate maternal mortality in Afghanistan. The triple-loop learning framework 16 offers a useful structure for these reflections. Single-loop learning consists of identifying errors (Are we doing things right?).…”

“…To support Triple-Loop Learning, easyRights uses an open multi-method approach to facilitate interaction and therefore the creation of a collaborative way to work. Coherently with the analyses of human activity systems [51], this approach is aimed at integrating the social dimension of the constitutive dynamics of collective action [52]. Learning in communities is expected to be enabled when members interact by reflecting critically and communicating about their reflections, thus scaling the individual critical reflection up to a collective social level [53].…”

“…The individual understands new elements and links them with prior knowledge and awareness. Knowledge is created at four levels: individual, group, organisational, and inter-organisational (Barbat, Boigey and Jehan, 2011;Turner, Fünfgeld and Robertson, 2016).…”

“…Triple-loop learning highlights the possibility of 'learning about learning' or 'learning to learn' and learning lessons from experience. Thus, multi-loop learning means analysing lessons (failures as well as successes) and translating these into updated and more informed decisions in the future (Barbat, Boigey and Jehan, 2011;Turner, Fünfgeld and Robertson, 2016). In the context of these models, knowledge is created, retained and transferred within an organisation.…”
