Syntheses, Structures, and Reactivity of Radial Oligocyclopentadienyl Metal Complexes: Penta(ferrocenyl)cyclopentadienyl and Congeners

“…Among the oligocyclopentadienyl metal complexes,1 the radial or “starburst” version based on the [5]radialene core2 has been elusive. Such permetalated pentacyclopentadienylated cyclopentadienyls (Cps) are of latent interest as novel tunable dendritic molecules,3 unusual electronic and magnetic materials,4 hexametallic “minisurfaces” with potential in catalysis,5 extremely bulky “supra”Cps,6 cyclic pentadecker “Ferris wheel” metallocenes,7 and circumferential annealing precursors to the corresponding unknown semibuckminsterfullerene C 30 H 10 ,8 the cap of the (5,5)nanotube, or its metalated form 9. We report the syntheses, structures, and properties of the first examples of this class of compounds, in addition to some transformations that pertain to the preceding premises.…”

Multi‐decker sandwich complexes using Be32− and Mg32− dianions
