“Triple-Decker Sandwich” Containing Planar {B2E2Pd} Ring (E = S or Se)

Abstract: In an effort to generate triple-decker complexes comprising a {PdCl 2 }moiety in the middle deck, we have explored the reactivity of [(Cp*M) 2 {μ-B 2 H 2 E 2 }], 1−4 (1: M = Co, E = S; 2: M = Co, E = Se; 3: M = Rh, E = Se; and 4: M = Ir, E = Se; Cp* = η 5 -C 5 Me 5 ), with [PdCl 2 (COD)] (COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene). The reactions led to the formation of a series of trinuclear heterometallic triple-decker complexes, [(Cp*M) 2 {μ-B 2 H 2 E 2 Pd-(Cl) 2 }], 5−8

“…All spectra of these compounds exhibited multiple bands over the range of 240–480 nm, and the absorbance of these bands increased with the increase of the concentrations of each compound. The intense absorption bands with high energy at <340 nm can be assigned to the intraligand π → π* transitions of cyclopentadienyl ligands . The lowest energy bands around 400–500 nm for 3 and 460–520 nm for 5 might arise from the 4 f -5 d transitions of the Ce 3+ ion in comparison with the spectra of the corresponding lanthanum complexes.…”

“…For instance SE values of 1-O 2 -1-Li computed by the B3LYP functional with 6-31++G(d,p), 6-311++G(d,p), aug cc-p-VDZ and aug cc-p-VTZ basis sets are 96. 21 As mentioned in Section 2, in the absence of any experimental or benchmark data, MP2 and CCSD(T) calculations impart the much needed credibility on a study and serve as a gold standard. In view of this, SE of the chosen half sandwiches and sandwich complexes is further computed by MP2 calculations with 6-31++G(d,p), 6-311++G(d,p), aug cc-p-VDZ and aug cc-p-VTZ basis sets as well as the CCSD(T) method with 6-31++G(d,p) and 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets and the obtained values are listed in Table 4.…”

“…12 Half-sandwich complexes of platinum group metals (Ir, Rh, Ru and Os) and certain recent biological and catalytic applications of these complexes have been recently reported. 20 Triple-decker sandwiches containing planar {B 2 E 2 Pd} rings ( E = S or Se) were studied by Joseph et al 21 Planar triple-decker and capped octahedral clusters of group-6 transition metals were studied by Bag et al 22 Gao et al performed a theoretical study on sandwich-like transition-metal–cyclooctatetraene clusters and one-dimensional infinite molecular wires. 23 The electronic properties of transition metal–benzene sandwich clusters have been well documented.…”
