Tripeptide based super-organogelators: structure and function

Abstract: The peptide based super-gelators are highly soluble in non-toxic organic solvent ethanol, the solution is easy to handle and just by spraying the ethanol solution over an oil–water mixture it is able to form an organogel at room temperature.

“…The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the product was used without further purification. Characterization of F0 matched the values reported in reference [ 10 ], characterization of F1 is reported in the Supplementary File , and characterization of F2 matched the values reported in reference [ 7 ].…”

“…Among all the different types of gels, LMW gelators can form physical gels, consisting in a bundle of fibers formed through weak interactions that entrap the solvent. Particular attention should be paid to the functional groups present on these gelators, as aromatic rings, proton donors and acceptors, and hydrophobic moieties, that are particularly able to form these interactions [ 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 ].…”

“…Peptide mimetic 1 gels exhibit amazing self-healing 26 properties. When we placed two pieces of a gel together, one in body oil and the other in kerosene oil, we observed, to our surprise, that the two oils slowly got mixed together.…”

“…In this case, ethanol was necessary as a water‐miscible carrier solvent. Similarly, Haldar and co‐workers reported the ability of easily available and cheap tripeptides 68 and 69 (Figure ) to congeal diesel from a mixture of diesel and water by using ethanol as the carrier solvent. De and co‐workers investigated the phase‐selective gelation of amino acid‐derived polymeric gelator 70 (Figure ).…”
