Trigonoplasty to Treat Secondary Vesicoureteral Reflux in Neurogenic Bladders

Abstract: Objectives: The effectiveness of Gil-Vernet’s trigonoplasty, with technical modifications, was studied in treating vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) in neurogenic bladders. Methods: Modified Gil-Vernet’s trigonoplasty, making the transmural ureters advance over the midline and cross each other in the trigone, was applied in patients with neurogenic bladder dysfunction and VUR, diagnosed by voiding cystourethrogram. Most of the patients were sufficiently followed up by cystourethrogram. Results: 26 patients with neur… Show more

“…The reported success rate of Gil-Vernet is close to previous reports of high success rate in its open transvesical technique [3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] . This success rate is much higher than the success rates associated with a single session of endoscopic submucosal injection of bulking agents (50-65%) [19][20][21] .…”

“…Zhao et al [39] described Gil-Vernet's trigonoplasty in treating vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) in neurogenic bladders. They introduced a modification in technique as advancement of transmural ureters over the midline and crossing each other in the trigone.…”
