Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) versus myofascial release therapy (MRT) on college students with chronic mechanical neck pain (CMNP). Methods Thirty-three college students with a mean age of 21.33 ± 0.98 involved in distance learning due to the Corona Virus 2019 (COVID-19) restriction were randomized to receive either IASTM on the upper trapezius and levator scapulae muscles or MRT. Researchers measured their pain with a visual analog scale (VAS), function with neck disability index (NDI), and pain pressure threshold (PPT) with a pressure algometer. The subjects received eight therapy sessions over four weeks and outcome measures were assessed pre and post-intervention. The study was registered as a clinical trial on clinicaltrials.gov (registration number: NCT05213871). Result Unpaired t-test showed no statistical significance between the two groups post-intervention regarding improvement in pain, function, and PPT (p > 0.05). Conclusion This study showed insignificant differences between groups. However, we did not use a control group, indicating that the improvement in outcomes may not have been caused by the intervention. Purpose: The effects of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) on cervical disc herniation (CDH) have not been extensively studied. The study aimed to investigate the effect of the IASTM technique on pain, functionality and psychology in CDH. Methods: A two-armed randomized controlled trial was carried out with 24 patients with CDH. Participants were randomized into two groups: conventional physiotherapy (n=12) and IASTM plus conventional physiotherapy (n=12). A conventional rehabilitation consists of a hot pack, electrotherapy, and exercises five days a week for four weeks. IASTM technique has been used for two sessions per week for four weeks. Patients were assessed with Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Neck Disability Index (NDI), Copenhagen Neck Functional Disability Scale (CNFDS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). The hypersensitive, palpable nodules known as myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) are located along muscular bundles. They frequently affect the shoulder girdle & cervical muscles .The muscle most usually affected is the trapezius. Trigger points in the neck are thought to be present in 85% of patients who visit pain clinics, and they affect women more frequently than males. In this study we see the effect of Instrumented assisted soft tissue mobilisation (IASTM) on upper trapezius myofascial trigger point. Most studies in our review study reported the IASTM’s usefulness in treating upper trapezius trigger points, but additional research is required.
