Tricyclononenes and tricyclononadienes as efficient monomers for controlled ROMP: understanding structure–propagation rate relationships and enabling facile post-polymerization modification

et al.

Abstract: A tricyclononene and tricyclononadiene monomer library is studied experimentally and computationally to deepen understanding of structure propagation rate relationships in ROMP. A novel poly(tricyclononadiene) post-ROMP functionalization is explored.

“…The parameter V bur‑near is the total inhibitor volume located in a hemisphere oriented toward the inhibitor and orthogonal to the M–P coordination (Figure ). Curiously, recent work studying monomers with respect to ROMP rates found that a similar descriptor, V bur , which uses a 3 Å sphere rather than a hemisphere encompassing the total distal volume to define the minimized steric environment, has been shown to impact ROMP rates . The inhibitor structures that have an observed extended pot life contain a mixture of both phosphites and phosphoramidites that are diversely decorated and are not intuitively linked.…”
