Trichinellosis, a Threatening and Re-Emerging Disease in a Romanian Western County

Abstract

Trichinellosis still remains a concern and a major issue of public health in Arad County. Implementation of strict hygienic measures, especially in the rural areas, must be a priority.

Foodborne Nematodal Infections in Hospitalized Patients from a Southwestern Romanian County

Epidemiology and history of human parasitic diseases in Romania

“…Investigations performed during this period in the apparently health population using a skin test (with Trichinella antigen prepared at Cantacuzino Institute in Bucharest) revealed a positive rate of 16% (Lupascu et al 1970b). At the beginning of 1973, an extensive epidemic occurred in Arad County (western Romania) including 757 cases who consumed illegally traded sausages (Cironeanu and Ispas 2002;Neghina et al 2009b).
