Tribological Properties of Hydroxyl-Terminated Liquid Nitrile Rubber-Modified Polyurethane/Epoxy Interpenetrating Polymer Network Composites

Abstract: A series of castor oil-based polyurethane (PU)/epoxy resin (EP) graft interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) composites modified by two kinds of hydroxy-terminated liquid nitrile rubber (HTLN) was prepared. A systematic investigation of the tribological properties of the two kinds of HTLN-modified PU/EP IPN composites was carried out through a pin-on-disk arrangement under dry sliding conditions. Experimental results revealed that the incorporation of HTLN can improve the friction and wear properties of PU/EP … Show more

“…4,5 In recent years, polyolen-based PUEs emerged as a unique kind of PUEs. In polyolen-based PUEs, functionalized diene-based polymers like hydroxy-terminated polybutadiene, [4][5][6][7] hydroxy-terminated butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer (HTBN), [8][9][10][11][12] and carboxyl-terminated butadiene acrylonitrile copolymer 6 were used as the so segments to synthesize polyolen-based PUEs. Due to the organic, linear, regular, and weak polar molecular structure of diene-based polymers, polyolen-based PUEs have the advantages of superior mechanic properties, toughness, low temperatures resistance, water resistance, oil resistance, and biocompatibility.…”

“…Due to the organic, linear, regular, and weak polar molecular structure of diene-based polymers, polyolen-based PUEs have the advantages of superior mechanic properties, toughness, low temperatures resistance, water resistance, oil resistance, and biocompatibility. [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12] However, owing to the large amount of unsaturated C]C bonds in the polymer chains of diene-based polymers, the resistance of polyolen-based PUEs to heat and oxidation is poor. [13][14][15] Hydrogenation is a signicant chemical modication method to improve the mechanic properties, heat resistance, and oxidation resistance of unsaturated polymers.…”

“…The PU‐based composite coatings with 20% microcapsules had a low friction coefficient and wear via the ionic liquid released from the broken microcapsules during the rubbing process. Chen et al [ 102 ] synthesized a series of PU/EP graft IPN composites modified by hydroxy‐terminated liquid nitrile rubber (HTLN). Both the friction coefficient and wear loss of PU/EP IPN with 20 phr HTLN significantly decreased with increasing content of HTLN.…”
