Tribological Behavior of NiTi Alloy Produced by Spark Plasma Sintering Method

Abstract: The tribological behaviors of NiTi alloy produced by the spark plasma sintering (SPS) method before and after annealing were investigated at various loading conditions via indentation, scratch, and wear tests. Indentation tests were performed by a pyramidal Berkovich indenter, while scratch and wear tests were carried out by a diamond Rockwell spherical indenter at room temperature. The annealing of the as-prepared samples was performed at 350, 450, and 550 °C in the ambient atmosphere. The influence of the an… Show more

“…The formation of diffusion coatings like nickel titanium compound (NiTi) has also drawn significant attention to combat wear [13][14][15][16]. NiTi intermetallic shows pseudoelasticity behavior [17,18] which is elastic responses to applied stresses, due to reversible martensitic phase transformation [19], and this leads to the superior hardness and wear resistance [20,21]. A number of research groups have employed various techniques to fabricate NiTi intermetallic as reliable protective layers on titanium and its alloys [22][23][24].…”

“…However, during the determination of the mentioned coefficients, it is the calculation of isobaric reaction potential at the temperature at which the cutting tool is operated that can become an important element in modeling the fracture of multilayer coatings and developing the coatings with optimal properties. Similar problems in relation to the NiTi coating were considered in [81,82].…”
