Tribological behavior of four types of filler metals for hard facing under dry conditions

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this study is to show which filler metal is the best for hard facing. Because the quality of the surface layer has a great influence on the working life of parts, the purpose was to extend the working life of parts exposed to intensive wear. The tested hard-faced models were made of low carbon steel to save the expensive base metal and to analyze the possibilities of extending the service life of existing structural parts. Design/methodology/approach Samples were prepared from plates h… Show more

“…Arsić et al performed an investigation to show which filler metal is the best for hard facing of parts of the construction mechanization and parts subjected to intensive abrasive wear at stone mines [ 20 ]. Since the quality of the surface layer imposes a great influence on the working life of parts, the purpose was to find which filler metal would contribute to extending the working life of parts exposed to intensive wear.…”

“…The tribological investigation was performed on model samples, prepared from the hard-faced surfaces, on a tribometer by the “block-on-disc” method, similar to some previous testing [ 30 , 31 ]. The samples were prepared in such a way to simulate the operation conditions of teeth of the coupled gears.…”

“…The main causes of the construction machinery working parts damages were subjects of research of authors of this article [1,2], as well as many others [3][4][5]. The general conclusion, on which the majority of authors agree, is that the service life and intensity of wear of the construction machinery mainly depend on physical and mechanical properties of the rock materials and their aggregates with which they come into contact [6][7][8][9][10][11][12].…”
